18 December 2018, Tbilisi – Over 20 representatives of the EU-supported Georgian Association of Local Action Groups (GALAG) took part in a three-day workshop organized by European LEADER Association for Rural Development (ELARD) during 14-16 December in Tbilisi.

The aim of the workshop was to share with Georgian LAGs European experience and knowledge in rural development, assist in the elaboration of internal and external communication plans, help in mapping main partners to build stronger platforms for advocacy and fundraising, advise on the formation of thematic working groups and on distribution of responsibilities among GALAG members.

During the workshop the GALAG communication plan was developed and two thematic groups for advocacy/lobbying and fundraising were created. At the end of the workshop almost all participants underlined ELARD’s tangible contribution in capacity building of the GALAG and that it will play the key role in future development of the organization. “I have never attended such an interesting workshop, which gave me the great insights how to move forward for GALAG’s success” - said GALAG’s Chairperson Maka Gongadze at the end of the workshop.

The workshop was organized in the framework of EU-funded European Neighbourhood Programme for Agriculture and Rural Development (ENPARD), which has been implemented in Georgia since 2013. The programme aims at reinvigorating the agriculture and the rural sector in the country with a thorough cooperation of government, civil society, and rural community.
